Jehovah was elated when Solomon asked for wisdom. Though the fear of god is the beginning of wisdom, Solomon received wisdom though he did not have the fear of God in him, which is why he did not walk in His footsteps as his father David did. Solomon did repent, but repentance does not reverse-engineer the bridge between the fear of God and wisdom.
