    Hello team!!!

We are so excited for everyone to join us this year as we join with NLWI to encourage and teach this summer in Kenya and Ethiopia! We’d love for you all to be able to get to know one another a bit before we go. This discussion is to hear from YOU!

How did you come to know about this trip AND know that God was calling YOU to say “YES!”?

Such a great question. I could write a book, but I’ll spare you that. I’ll just say I’ve known for 10 years that I’m called to help people in other parts of the world know God and worship Him. What an honor to now be teaching children about His love and worth.

Last year while my husband was preaching at a church in Lobelville Tenn, A young woman gave her testimony of her trip to Belize the week prior. I had heard that Union Baptist Church was taking a mission trip to Zambia and immediately I knew I had to go. I asked Brother Anthony if it was too late for me to join the Zambia trip. He called a few people (paige and I think brother Dwayne) it worked out that it was not too late. Taking that one trip to Zambia, confirmed that this is one of the thing I have been called to do.

I have been a Christian since I was about 8 years old. Grew up in church and spent many weeks on youth mission trips and church choir tours. I had been away from church for about a decade and finally, made my way back, and even back to my home church of FBC Alabaster. I immediately plugged back in with choir and started leading our preschool choir. I had lived in South Africa for a couple years and when this mission trip to Zambia came along, God said “You can do this. You can help.” This was my first mission trip as an adult and won’t be my last! God uses what we have been through for his good!

My name is Deb Dwiggins. I attend the 1st Baptist Church of Alabaster Alabama. Last year Dwayne and James came to our church for training. Dwayne mentioned the opportunity of a mission trip to Zambia. Never in my life had I been on a mission trip. Zambia was so overwhelming to me. This year here I come Kenya. God is using me in a way that passes all.

God gave me a passion for travel and children (mom of 5). Now that my kids were getting older, I was ready to travel again. It had been 20+yrs since my last mission trip, so I started spreading the word at my church (Olive) looking for opportunities. When the music ministry team reached out to me about NLW’s trip to Zambia last year I thought they had the wrong person (not musically inclined). When they said they needed children’s workers too, then it was a no brainer for me.

I didn’t know if I would be back this year (Kenya) after the sudden loss of my 11yr old daughter in October, but my husband urged me to go. He saw the difference it made on me last year and he wanted to share in that experience and come with me this year. I didn’t know it then, but God used the last trip to prepare me to endure the tragedy ahead. We are only able to function because of our faith, and we know more than ever that tomorrow isn’t promised… even for children. We want the whole world to know Him personally like our daughter did, and does even more so in heaven with Him now.
