• Summary of Matthew Chapter 18:

      1. Who Is the Greatest? (vv. 1–5):
The disciples ask Jesus who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus brings a child before them and says that unless they become like little children—humble and trusting—they cannot enter the kingdom. Welcoming a child in His name is like welcoming Jesus Himself.

      2. Warning Against Causing Others to Sin (vv. 6–9):
Jesus warns that causing others—especially “little ones” (children or vulnerable believers)—to stumble is a serious offense. He uses strong imagery, saying it’s better to lose a limb than to continue in sin that leads to destruction.

      3. The Parable of the Lost Sheep (vv. 10–14):
Jesus tells of a shepherd who leaves 99 sheep to find the one that is lost. This shows God’s deep care for every individual, especially those who go astray.

      4. Dealing with Sin in the Church (vv. 15–20):
Jesus gives a process for resolving conflict or sin within the community:

      • Speak privately to the person.

      • If they won’t listen, bring one or two others.

      • If they still refuse, bring it to the church.

      • If they still won’t respond, treat them as an outsider.

He also speaks of the power of agreement in prayer and His presence where two or three gather in His name.

      5. The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant (vv. 21–35):
Peter asks how many times he should forgive—seven times? Jesus replies, “Seventy-seven times.” He tells a parable of a servant forgiven a huge debt by his master but who refuses to forgive a small debt owed to him. The master punishes the unforgiving servant, highlighting that God expects us to forgive others as He forgives us.
