• Matthew Chapter 1:

      • Genealogy of Jesus:
The chapter starts with a genealogy tracing Jesus’ lineage from Abraham through King David, down to Joseph, the husband of Mary. It highlights Jesus’ rightful place in Jewish history and his fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies.

      • Birth of Jesus Christ:
The story then shifts to the circumstances of Jesus’ birth. Mary, engaged to Joseph, becomes pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Joseph, a righteous man, initially plans to quietly break off the engagement to avoid public disgrace for Mary.

      • Angel’s Message to Joseph:
An angel appears to Joseph in a dream, telling him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife because her child is conceived by the Holy Spirit. The angel explains that the child will be named Jesus, meaning “the Lord saves,” because he will save his people from their sins.

      • Fulfillment of Prophecy:
This all fulfills a prophecy from Isaiah that a virgin would conceive and bear a son called Immanuel, meaning “God with us.”

      • Joseph’s Obedience:
Joseph obeys the angel’s instructions, takes Mary as his wife, and names the baby Jesus after he is born.
